IS A MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD RIGHT FOR YOU? HERE’S A HOW-TO!

Even though Michigan now allows for adult-use purchases, Medical Marijuana cards are still a powerful asset for those who qualify. Medical patients pay substantially lower taxes, have access to more potent doses, and currently have a wider variety of products available to them while the recreational market develops.

The Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) has streamlined the application process, making it a much quicker turn-around to receive card approvals and renewals. Once you receive a confirmation email approving your application, you can print that email and present it with a picture ID to gain access to medical provisioning centers. Your physical card should arrive within a few weeks. Cards remain valid for two years

HOW TO APPLY AND RENEW

You’ll want to start at www.michigan.gov/mmp. There you’ll find the state’s full requirements and instructions. If you do not have a caregiver, you can apply for and renew your card online, otherwise you must submit a paper application (found here). Minors have a specific application that must be completed (found here).

THINGS YOU
WILL NEED TO
SUBMIT:

1 Completed application form
2 Physician Certification Form, completed and signed by a current
Michigan Physician or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
3 Proof of Michigan residency (Current MI drivers license, MI identification card, or signed voter registration)
4 Application fee of $40 (check or money order if submitting paper app).

If you plan to send your application in by mail, you’ll need to print off all required paperwork (including the completed physician’s form that confirms your diagnosis of a qualifying condition) and submit with the application fee (check or money order made payable to: State of Michigan- MMMP) to the following address:

Michigan Medical Marijuana Program
PO BOX 30083
Lansing, MI 48909

Be sure you’ve triple-checked the application. If it is incomplete it will be rejected and you will have to go through the process again. It’s recommended that you send it via certified mail so you can be sure it is tracked and received.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA EVALUATION CLINICS

Many general practitioners are now comfortable approving medical marijuana use for their patients, but there are also clinics that specialize in medical marijuana certification. Some of these clinics will require you to bring your medical records with you, which you would obtain from your general practitioner or applicable specialist given your medical history. Check with the office in advance so you are prepared with any paperwork you may need.
